The Brain-Net Therapy Process
Homework
The Lazarus Foundation teaches parents how to enhance their child's development through home-based therapy programs tailored to meet their own unique needs. We strongly recommend that our families read “Rescuing Brain Injured Children” By Keith Pennock. The book explains how and why brain injury can be treated by outlining the specialized techniques and theories that Brain-Net and the Lazarus Foundation use to help improve the development of brain injured children.
Initial 4-Day Evaluation
The child and his/her family visit The Lazarus Foundation's facility in Columbia, Pa. for the Brain-Net Therapy evaluation and learning process. The evaluation consists of meeting with the child and their parents to evaluate the child's medical history, abilities and needs. This process involves:
- Day 1 - Interviewing the family about their medical history; reviewing the child's medical history; reviewing the doctor's recommendations and diagnosis; and assessing the specific nature of the brain injury. A therapist meets with and evaluates the child to design a program around their needs. The evaluation of the child includes reflex tests, language manual competency, gross motor, mobility, and sensory testing.
- Day 2 - Teaching the family the theory and method of the Brain-Net techniques. This includes attending a day of workshops where the parents are taught why The Lazarus Foundation believes it is possible to improve the abilities of most children using a multi-sensory stimulation program of therapy.
- Days 3 & 4 -- Under the expert guidance of our trained staff and therapists we teach the parents and caregivers the specialized techniques of therapy with their child. We also provide more information to the family to further aid them with helping their child to develop intellectually and physically through therapy, sensory stimulation, and good nutrition.
Home Therapy Program (Consistency is Key)
Educated on and equipped with the Brain-Net techniques the family returns home. This is where it is critical for the families and caregivers to perform the techniques with their child exactly how The Lazarus Foundation staff and therapists recommend. The therapy programs are specific, minute-to-minute instructions and are typically administered two to three times daily for a prescribed time period.
Progress Re-evaluation Program
After six months of administering the therapy program to the child for the prescribed duration, the family returns to The Lazarus Foundation facility in Columbia, Pa. for a re-evaluation of the child's progress. When the child's abilities are thoroughly assessed and evaluated the program is updated. The family then will be taught new techniques according to the child's progress. Re-evaluations after this period are recommended at six-month intervals.
