Intensive Suit Therapy
To complement our existing Brain-Net Program, The Lazarus Foundation will be adding Intensive Suit Therapy in the spring of 2009. This new program is showing promise in high functioning children with brain injury.

Initially used on Russian Cosmonauts to keep their muscles from atrophying while in space, in a zero gravity environment, this orthodic is known as the Adeli Suit. It is made up of a breathable cotton material that utilizes "rubberized bungee cords" to place the child's body in a neutral position. This allows the body and brain to “communicate" creating muscle memory. The Adeli Suit also helps children to gain strength and increase or decrease muscle tone.

The Lazarus Foundations is committed to the highest level of service and therefore all of our therapists are trained extensively in the Adeli Methodology and use of the Adeli Suit.

During an Intensive Suit therapy program a child will participate in a variety of activities targeted at improving the overall function of each child. This time will consist of Adeli Suit time in the Universal Exercise Unit otherwise known as the monkey cage and spider cage, as well as other physical therapy techniques.

The results from the intensive therapy program equals the results from 6-12 months of traditional therapy.

Modified Intensive Therapy
The Modified Intensive Therapy program is designed for each child on an individual basis. This program can be used daily or several times per week. A session can consist of up to 4 hours per day and will include hot packs, stretching, and massage.

The Special Kids Fitness Center
Our new facility will also feature a special exercise area designed specifically for children with neurological disorders. Parents and children are encouraged to use the gym daily or weekly for work-outs, assisted by trained staff, utilizing specially designed exercise equipment.

Therapies on the Radar

The therapies listed below are not currently offered at the Lazarus Foundation. However, our hope is to offer these exciting new therapies in the future at our new facility in Columbia, Pa. We listed them here as an overview and to give families more information so they can conduct their own research.

Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy (HBOT)
We will not offer HBOT at our future facility, nor do we offer it at our current facility. However, this therapy is offered at a local medical center that we strongly endorse.

For some children with neurological disabilities Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy (HBOT) has shown to improve muscle function. We work closely with the staff at the Robert M. Lombard Hyperbaric Oxygenation Medical Center conveniently located near our current and future facilities in Columbia, Pa.

As the title indicates hyperbaric oxygenation therapy involves breathing pure oxygen through stronger atmospheric pressure to increase the amount of oxygen circulating through the body. The process is administered by sitting or lying down in a hyperbaric chamber.

Pediatric Massage
Just like adults, children also enjoy receiving massages, especially children with neurological disorders. Massage, when applied before physical therapy, helps to warm the muscles and makes them more pliable for therapy. Intensive therapy is more tolerable for the child when massage is applied.

Kinesio Taping
The Kinesio Taping® Method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. This method is new to rehabilitation and sports medicine practices.

Founded in Japan 25 years ago, the Kinesio Taping® Method affects the activation of the neurological system, the body's information processor and the circulatory system. Using an elastic tape, along with complimentary therapy, the Kinesio Taping® Method treats muscles and other tissues, nerves and organs.
